Proud To Provide Four Generations Of Excellence In Tile Installations

Established over 100 years ago by William Erath, our company was founded in 1912 as the Central Tile Company in Brooklyn. William’s start was with a major installation of bathroom tile in a 50-unit row house development. Based on the success of this installation, William continued operating primarily in the residential sector until the 1930s.  In the ’40s, when William’s son (also named William) joined the company, the focus shifted from residential to commercial tile installations in larger commercial buildings throughout Manhattan. Together as father and son, they began working as sub-contractors, providing tile-setting services for general contractors. In 1951, the family decided to re-christen itself as Wm. Erath & Son, Inc. At this point Scott’s father, Robert, joined the business (Robert is now retired).

Today, the company welcomes a 5th generation into the business with Scott’s oldest son, Thomas Erath, who has been involved with the company since 2005, learning everything from sweeping the warehouse floor to supervising in the field. Younger son Tim Erath joined in 2012, and is working his way through the office, learning estimating and the art of project management.
